Crepey Neck Treatments, West Malling, Kent
Your neck, often an overlooked area in skincare routines, can reveal signs of aging like crepey skin. Understanding its causes, preventive measures, and effective treatments is crucial for maintaining a youthful appearance. Let’s delve into the why and how of fixing a crepey neck and maintaining a youthful decolletage for longer.
What causes a crepey neck?
In a word, photoageing. This is the effect of ultraviolet light (particularly UVA, which is present in daylight all year round) on your skin which, among other things such as its effects on pigmentation, breaks down the collagen and elastin in your skin. Collagen and elastin are proteins that keep your skin strong and springy, so when they break down, it contributes to sagging and wrinkling. Your skin also gets drier as you age as your oil glands produce less sebum (which seals moisture into the skin) than they used to. There are already fewer oil glands in the neck than in the face, so the neck skin has less of a protective, waterproof seal on it than the face does and can dry out more quickly. Drier skin wrinkles more rapidly and becomes rougher in texture than better-hydrated skin.
How can I prevent crepey skin in this area?
Prevention plays a pivotal role in maintaining a youthful neck. Daily application of broad-spectrum sunscreen helps shield against harmful UV rays, a significant contributor to skin aging. Additionally, incorporating a skincare routine with moisturisers and serums rich in hyaluronic acid and peptides supports skin hydration and collagen production, aiding in maintaining skin elasticity. A healthy lifestyle, including adequate hydration, a balanced diet, and good posture, will also help to delay neck ageing.
What is the best treatment for a crepey neck?
Polynucleotides
When polynucleotides are injected into the skin, they can regenerate fibroblasts. By doing so, collagen and elastin production is stimulated leading to an improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, tone, and texture. In addition to stimulating fibroblasts, polynucleotides also help to protect these cells from damage. They do this by providing a source of nucleotides, which are essential for the repair and replication of DNA. This is particularly important in skin cells constantly exposed to environmental stressors such as UV radiation that can damage DNA and impair cell function.
Polynucleotides help maintain our skin’s structure and elasticity by stimulating fibroblasts and boosting collagen production, promoting a more youthful appearance in treated areas such as the neck. This makes them a powerful tool in anti-ageing skincare treatments.
Profhilo
Profhilo works by placing a lightweight hyaluronic acid gel into the skin. The gel spreads to cover the treated area and because it is thermally stabilised it remains in the skin for around 21 days. During this time the gel hydrates the skin by holding water inside the skin tissues and also stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin. You need two treatments, 30 days apart, in order to see results, which fully kick in about 8 weeks after the first treatment. The results you can hope to see include stronger, firmer skin which is more resilient and which springs back into place more swiftly when you pinch it. And you may even notice a certain amount of skin tightening, too. All these elements help reduce the crepey appearance of ageing skin on the neck.
Profound RF
For crepeyness, skin-resurfacing treatments, like RF microneedling, are very effective. They improve skin texture by using tiny needles to prick the skin before heating the deeper skin tissues, triggering collagen repair. We use Profound RF, the only proven technology capable of generating all three components of healthy skin – collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid – to optimally stimulate skin repair.
Understanding the causes of crepey skin, adopting preventive measures, and exploring suitable treatments can significantly enhance skin texture and elasticity. A combination of lifestyle changes and tailored treatments can restore a smoother, more youthful neck, ultimately enhancing overall appearance and confidence. Always consult with a qualified skincare professional to determine the best approach for addressing individual skin concerns and achieving desired results.
