Microsclerotherapy
Microsclerotherapy Treatment Kings Hill, Kent
This is the ‘gold standard’ treatment for removing thread veins anywhere below the neck, but it is most often used when treating veins on the legs and ankles. It involves individual injections of a sclerosing solution into each vein that needs to be removed. The sclerosing solution causes the vein to shrink and seal itself off, after which the body will dispose of it naturally.
At Illuminate, we only use licensed and leading products on the market for this treatment, to ensure optimum safety and results.

1
How does this vein removal treatment work?
Microsclerotherapy involves injections of a sclerosing agent with a very fine needle. The agent irritates the lining of the veins causing the vein walls to stick together. Blood stops flowing through the veins, which are then absorbed by the body over a period of a few weeks. The blood is directed back to the deeper veins.

What happens during my microsclerotherapy treatment?
This treatment is given in clinic. You will usually be lying down, but your position may vary according to the precise area being treated.
3
Will I feel any pain or side effects?
You may feel some mild discomfort. The area of skin immediately around the vein may become red and blotchy for 24 hours following treatment. You are asked to wear compression stockings 24 hours a day for 1 week after treatment and to stay mildly active, taking at least two brisk 30 minute walks a day for 1 week following each treatment. You should also be careful about exposing the treated area to strong sunlight for 6 months after treatment, so we usually recommend that treatment is undertaken between September and April.
4
Who is this microslerotherapy treatment suitable for?
Microsclerotherapy is not suitable for patients with varicose veins. If we identify varicose veins at your consultation, you will be referred to a vascular surgeon for treatment before we treat you with microsclerotherapy.
Note: Microsclerotherapy is not suitable for treating facial thread or spider veins, due to the potential risk of blindness.
