Does CoolSculpting work on the upper arms?
Non-Surgical Fat Reduction on the Arms, West Malling, Kent
Excess fat in the upper arms is a common concern for many individuals, often proving stubborn and resistant to traditional weight loss methods. The accumulation of arm fat can be influenced by a variety of factors, and while exercise and diet play crucial roles in achieving toned arms, some people turn to innovative solutions like CoolSculpting to help them in their journey to more sculpted and shapely arms.
What causes fat in the upper arms?
The upper arms contain deep fat and subcutaneous fat layers, but as we age, the subcutaneous layer of fat that sits just beneath our skin often increases in size. This can lead directly to fatty deposits collecting around our upper arms, leading to the formation of ‘bingo wings.’ These sagging pockets of fat obscure our triceps muscles and can make us look and feel aged and out-of-shape.
Sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices, and lack of regular exercise can contribute to excess fat in the upper arms. When you consume more calories than your body needs, the surplus is stored as fat, which can accumulate in the arms.
What can you do about your arm fat?
Tackling your arm fat from the inside is a great place to start, with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. There are actually a number of workouts that specifically target your arms to help shed the fatty layers there and reveal the muscles beneath.
These exercises are primarily centred around fortifying arm strength, often involving weightlifting. However, it’s essential to bear in mind that spot-targeting fat is an unattainable goal. Sadly, you can’t exercise a particular area and expect your body to understand that you only want to lose weight in that one specific place.
Training your arms and getting rid of the fat can be a lengthy, time-consuming process. And at the end of it all, there’s no guarantee you’ll see the results you wanted. Which is where non-surgical CoolSculpting comes in.
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting provides an effective way to remove stubborn fat from your body in a specific area to achieve a more sculpted figure. It works by freezing the fat cells in the treated area and, unlike liposuction, does not require surgery. Freezing the cells in this way results in fat cell death, causing the area to shrink. The cell contents are then naturally metabolised by your liver as your body eliminates them, leaving your arms looking slimmer and more defined.
You may start to see results within a few weeks of the procedure, but it can take up to four months to reach the full amount of fat reduction as the dead fat cells are slowly eliminated by your body.
One treatment session can be effective at reducing fat in the treated area by up to 25%. Other procedures such as liposuction can remove up to 75% of your body fat in the treated area with just one treatment but CoolSculpting is a less invasive procedure.
Does CoolSculpting for arms really work?
A 2015 study of patients who underwent two sessions of CoolSculpting on their upper arms found that on average, participants lost around 15% of their fat.
Another study found that patients who underwent CoolSculpting treatments across various parts of their body reported a massive 25% improvement after 6 months. Which goes to show, though CoolSculpting isn’t an instant win, it’s considerably more effective (and more satisfactory) than bicep curls!
How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for your arms?
For your arms, one to two CoolSculpting treatment sessions are usually sufficient and will achieve up to a 25% reduction in fat. However, treatment plans are bespoke, and dependant on the amount of fat in the area and your treatment goals.
