Sofwave vs. Morpheus8 RF Microneedling
Skincare can only go so far. As more of us explore ‘tweakments’, a reliable route to looking fresh at all ages lies with non-surgical skin tightening – stimulating collagen production through an energy-based device to tighten, contour and lift your face and neck effectively. And one such device is Sofwave which takes a no-nonsense approach to tightening the skin on the face and body. But how does it compare to Morpheus8, a skin tightening device that utilises Radiofrequency Microneedling, and which is right for you?
What is Sofwave, and how does it work?
Sofwave is not just another device but a real breakthrough in ultrasound technology that is FDA cleared for improving fine lines and wrinkles, and now lifting of the eyebrow, lax jawline and neck tissue. Completely non-invasive with minimal discomfort and downtime, this procedure stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin using SUPERB plus Sofcool to protect the skin and reduce downtime.
Studies show that the device lifts the eyelids by up to five millimetres, and even jowly jawlines emerge more chiselled, so it’s perfect if you’re starting to notice a loss of laxity in the lower face. It’s all down to a super-smart delivery system, which uses patented parallel beam technology to deliver heat at a depth of 1.5 millimetres. Unlike rival devices, which hit the muscle, Sofwave targets the mid-dermis, where it revs up collagen for that all-important lifting effect.
We begin treatment by applying a layer of conducting gel to the face and neck before pulling the skin taut and moving the handheld device systematically across the face and up beneath the orbital bone, where it fires ultrasound energy into the dermis.
What is the downtime?
There is no downtime with Sofwave – absolutely no flushing, bruising or swelling, so you can continue your day as usual after leaving the clinic.
What results should you expect?
Optimal results take time to develop. Post-treatment, the fresh collagen stimulated deep within the skin takes approximately three months to kick in and show on the surface. But when it does, you can expect a tighter, more youthful-looking visage, the eyes more alert and open, the jawline refined and significantly sharper and the mid-face elegantly elevated.
How does Morpheus8 work?
Unlike Sofwave, Morpheus8 utilises radiofrequency microneedling to tighten and lift the skin. The depth of current, delivered using tiny needles, helps stimulate a rejuvenating inflammatory process, resulting in new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. It heats the lower layers of the skin (the dermis) to 42 degrees C. At this point, the existing collagen contracts, resulting in immediate tightening of the skin that continues to improve over time. Depending on your concerns, multiple treatment sessions are usually advised for optimum results.
How does Sofwave compare to Morpheus8?
Ultrasound and Radiofrequency Microneedling are two very different technologies that each have their ideal candidate, so the right treatment for you depends on your concerns and treatment goals. Sofwave is particularly effective if more significant tightening is required or if a patient has thinner or more sun-damaged skin. Morpheus8 resurfaces the skin, smoothing fine lines and age spots. Sofwave, on the other hand, has one primary focus – delivering a deep skin tightening effect to the treated area. Morpheus8 also requires a course of treatments for optimum results, whereas Sofwave is a one-off treatment that lasts approximately two years.
Both Ultrasound and RF microneedling technologies offer excellent results depending on your skin concerns. That’s why we always suggest coming into the clinic to discuss your concerns and unique goals to understand which treatment is right for you.
