Hyperhidrosis Treatment, Kent and London
Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, can be a frustrating and often embarrassing condition that impacts everyday life. From stained clothes to anxiety in social settings, the effects go far beyond physical discomfort. But if you’ve been struggling with sweating that feels out of your control, Botox might be the treatment you’ve been looking for.
At Illuminate Skin Clinic Kent and London, we treat many patients each year for hyperhidrosis using Botox, with consistently transformative results. Here’s everything you need to know about how it works, what to expect, and how it can help you regain confidence.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. It can affect specific areas, commonly the underarms, hands, feet or face, or be more widespread. In some people, it’s triggered by heat, exercise or stress. For others, it happens without any obvious reason at all. Regardless of the cause, the overproduction of sweat can significantly impact daily life and confidence.
If you’ve tried topical antiperspirants, prescription creams or medications without success, Botox is a clinically proven option that targets the issue at its source.
How does Botox help with sweating?
Botox, a form of botulinum toxin, is widely known for smoothing wrinkles, but it has powerful medical applications too. When injected into areas affected by hyperhidrosis, Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals from nerves that stimulate sweat glands. As a result, sweating in the treated area is dramatically reduced.
This doesn’t mean your body will stop sweating altogether. It simply prevents excessive sweating in the targeted area, allowing your body to maintain its natural cooling function through either more normal levels of sweating in the problem area or through other body parts.
What areas can be treated?
Botox for hyperhidrosis is most commonly used to treat excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). However, it can also be highly effective for sweating in the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, forehead, scalp and even areas like the lower back or groin, depending on your individual needs.
During your consultation at Illuminate Skin Clinic, we’ll assess your symptoms and determine the best treatment approach based on the severity and location of your sweating.
What happens during the treatment?
The treatment itself is quick and relatively comfortable. We begin by cleaning the treatment area. A series of tiny Botox injections are then administered just below the surface of the skin. For most patients, the process takes around 20 to 30 minutes.
If you’re worried about discomfort, especially when treating sensitive areas like the palms or soles, we can apply a numbing cream beforehand to make the experience more comfortable.
There’s no downtime needed, and you’ll be able to return to your normal activities straight away.
When will I see results?
You won’t notice results instantly, but most people begin to see a reduction in sweating within 2 to 5 days after treatment, with full results developing over 1 to 2 weeks. At this point, the treated area will feel significantly drier and more manageable.
The effects typically last between 4 to 7 months, although this can vary from person to person. Many patients return for maintenance treatments once or twice a year to stay sweat-free.
Is Botox for hyperhidrosis safe?
Yes, when administered by a trained and experienced medical professional, Botox is a very safe and well-established treatment for hyperhidrosis. It’s been FDA-approved for use in the underarms and has an excellent track record for both safety and efficacy.
At the clinic, all hyperhidrosis treatments are performed by experienced aesthetic doctors with extensive knowledge of facial and body anatomy. We’ll also carry out a thorough consultation to ensure the treatment is suitable for you.
Who is a good candidate?
Botox for hyperhidrosis is ideal for those who have not found relief through lifestyle measures, topical antiperspirants or oral medications. It’s suitable for both men and women and can be a game-changer for people who find their sweating interferes with work, social interactions, clothing choices, or overall quality of life.
If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain neuromuscular conditions, this treatment may not be suitable. We’ll go over your medical history and any relevant contraindications during your consultation.
What kind of results can I expect?
The results of Botox for hyperhidrosis can be genuinely life-changing. Most patients report feeling more confident, more comfortable, and less anxious about daily activities. You’ll be able to wear the clothes you want, attend meetings or events without worrying about sweat marks, and get on with your day without constantly thinking about perspiration.
And because it’s non-permanent, the treatment can be adjusted over time to meet your needs as they change.
