Jeremy – Excessive Sweating
I’ve struggled with a lot of sweating since my late teens. It was a huge problem for me – at first I would try to layer t-shirts so that sweat stains didn’t show through my clothes. That didn’t stop me being conscious of it and how I might smell. I tried some heavy duty deodorants, but I found they only made a small difference but were quite irritating to my skin.

As I got older it was something I was so embarrassed about at work, which only made the problem worse. The more anxious I got the more I sweated. I would wear a t-shirt underneath my work shirt, but even that wasn’t enough sometimes and I felt like people were judging me and assuming I had bad personal hygiene. It even got so bad that I started buying 2 identical shirts so that I could change part way through the day. During the summer it was just impossible for me, and when most people were looking forward to some warmth I was praying for autumn to come.
I tried to speak to my GP about it, but what they could offer on the NHS was very limited. I did my research and discovered that Botox injections into the armpits can decrease the amount of sweating. I was so desperate I decided to give it a try. Dr Sophie used a tiny needle to make lots of small injections – it pinched a bit but was nowhere near as bad as I expected. Within a few days I noticed it was improving, and when I went back to the clinic 2 weeks later I was completely dry. I couldn’t believe it! I’ve now 4 treatments, and I try and go every 4 months or so. I don’t ever want it to wear off completely again.
