Gardasil
Gadarsil is the most commonly used brand of cervical cancer vaccination in the UK. It protects against HPV types 16 and 18, which cause more than 70% of cervical cancers between them, and against HPV types 6 and 11 which cause 90% of all cases of genital warts. Gardasil also protects against other cancers caused by high-risk types of HPV infection. Protection against infection lasts for at least 10 years and in most cases much longer.
Gardasil is available via the NHS for teenagers but is not available to older men and women for whom it can still provide protection. The vaccination is given in a course of 3 injections, over a 6 month period.
