When it comes to injectables that stimulate collagen production and improve the condition of the skin, it may seem that we have endless options to choose from. But what if we told you that there is now a new treatment that promises to give you dewy, plump, smooth, hydrated skin whilst also providing your skin with the perfect conditions for it to rebuild itself from the inside out? And it’s a treatment that stands out from the rest.
Let us introduce you to the next generation of bio-modellers – polynucleotides. While Profhilo has been a huge beauty buzzword in recent years, polynucleotides are certainly starting to cause a stir, as more and more people want to find out more about its impressive qualities. Read on to understand the key differences between the two treatments.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a potent moisturising factor naturally found in skin, muscle, and joints. Its ability to draw 1000 times its own weight in water into the skin makes it ideal for binding and retaining water molecules, hydrating the skin from within to leave it fresh and radiant.
We all naturally produce and break down hyaluronic acid every day, but as we age, the process gets a little sluggish. Profhilo is injected at 5 points on each side of the face and spreads evenly throughout the layers of the skin drawing water along the way. This approach plumps the skin and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles whilst boosting the skin’s radiance and dewiness – delivering a long-lasting serum-type effect, but without the serum. A Profhilo treatment consists of two treatments spaced four to six weeks apart and the results will last for approximately six months.
What are polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are biostimulators. This concept is similar to what HA-based skin boosters accomplish, but polynucleotides go beyond mere hydration. Rather than just providing hydration, polynucleotides encourage the skin to produce collagen and elastin in a more meaningful way, to improve the extracellular matrix, leading to a variety of benefits. Unlike Profhilo, polynucleotides offer various products for specific concerns and, as well as skin regeneration, there are also options for the neck, eyes, and even the scalp to stimulate hair growth.
What are the key differences between Profhilo and polynucleotides?
The way in which polynucleotides differ from familiar injectables such as Profhilo is that they consist of a bio-stimulant gel, rather than hyaluronic acid. Yet they still do the all-important job of stimulating fibroblasts – the major cells responsible for the production of collagen. Polynucleotides directly stimulate specific receptors on the fibroblast cells and stimulate them to produce the healthy collagen that we have in our youth. While both treatments are highly effective, they each have their own ideal candidate. Polynucleotides are fantastic for the more mature age group as they regenerate sagging and dehydrated skin and thickens the tissues. It also lasts longer than Profhilo – up to a year after three treatments.
Which treatment is right for you?
Deciding which treatment is right for you depends on your treatment goals and any concerns you may have. If you are looking for giving your skin a blast of hydration and glow, Profhilo would be a good choice for you, as it acts as a light-reflecting highlighter, giving radiance to your complexion. If you are of a more mature age and are more concerned with dark circles, laxity, or fine line and wrinkles, and looking to re-build the blocks of the foundations of your skin, polynucleotides would be a preferred choice.
It is also possible to combine both polynucleotides and Profhilo to various issues simultaneously, and for the ultimate in eye treatments, you can combine polynucleotides with Light Eyes Mesotherapy without the risk of swelling.
Both polynucleotides and Profhilo are excellent treatment options, but you should consult with an expert practitioner who will help you decide which is most suitable for you.
