You might be familiar with lip fillers, but what about lip flips? A lip flip is a cosmetic procedure that uses Botox to enhance the appearance of your lips, specifically your top lip. But how does it compare to fillers, is it safe and will it give you the results you want it to? Read on for everything you need to know.
What is a lip flip?
The Lip Flip is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip. Unlike traditional lip fillers, which aim to add volume to the lips, the Lip Flip focuses on subtly altering the upper lip shape and enhancing its visibility. This procedure is particularly appealing to individuals who wish to achieve a fuller upper lip without the commitment or cost of traditional lip fillers.
How does the lip flip work?
The Lip Flip procedure is relatively simple and involves the use of neurotoxin injections, most commonly Botox. The neurotoxin is strategically injected into the muscles around the upper lip, specifically the orbicularis oris muscle. This muscle encircles the mouth and controls lip movements. By targeting this muscle, the procedure relaxes it, causing the upper lip to roll slightly upward. As a result, more of the pink part of the upper lip becomes visible, creating the illusion of a fuller and more pronounced lip.
The treatment typically takes only a few minutes to complete, and most patients experience minimal discomfort. As with any injectable treatment, there may be some temporary swelling or bruising at the injection sites, but this usually subsides within a few days.
Lip Flip vs. Lip Fillers: Understanding the Difference
Lip flips and lip fillers are two different treatment options for lost lip volume and desire for a fuller pout. Lip fillers enhance the upper AND lower lips, address symmetry, last much longer and add additional volume. Lip flips only address the upper lip border to raise the vermillion border for lift effect but do not address lip symmetry or lip volume. Botox just targets muscles that need relaxing and is a much less bespoke approach. Filler can enhance the vermillion border, or your cupid’s bow, or add a little additional volume to your upper or lower lip. Filler is used to create volume in a lip and to help enhance or change the shape of your lips to your liking. The result of lip fillers also lasts for much longer than lip flips, ranging from 9-18 months on average.
Who is a good candidate for the lip flip?
Choosing between the Lip Flip and lip fillers depends on your aesthetic goals and preferences. If you’re looking for a subtle enhancement and primarily want to show more of your upper lip, the Lip Flip could be an excellent option. On the other hand, if you desire more significant volume, reshaping of the lips, or addressing of asymmetries, lip fillers may be a better fit.
