What is Neogen Plasma, and how does it work?
Neogen Plasma is one of the latest non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments, that works to boost elasticity and firm, tone and smooth skin on the face, neck and body. But how exactly does it work? Is it worth it? And how does it compare to other non-surgical skin tightening technologies like ultrasound and RF microneedling?
What is Neogen Plasma, and what does it do?
Manufactured by Welsh company Energist, NeoGen has a crucial point of difference compared to other types of plasma devices that most practitioners stay clear of – it uses nitrogen. The device works by converting inert nitrogen gas into plasma energy. Those energy pulses are emitted via a handpiece, rapidly heating the lower layer of the skin (the dermis). The heat creates controlled damage that triggers your body’s natural healing response, creating healthy new collagen and elastin that produces both immediate skin tightening and firmer skin over time.
As skin regeneration begins and the damaged epidermis sheds as the new upper layer of skin appears to replace the treated epidermis, you can expect to see an improvement in fine lines, mild skin laxity, age spots, acne scars and loose skin on the eyelids.
Is Neogen Plasma safe?
The energy bypasses the skin surface without burning it and works only inside the skin, where it can trigger new collagen and elastin production. Plus, the heat generated can be very tightly controlled, which translates into predictable, reliable outcomes with minimal risk of complications.
What are the downsides of Neogen plasma?
As with any aesthetic treatment, Neogen plasma can’t do everything, and it does have its cons. So, if you’re considering skin tightening treatments, it’s important to consider various devices to understand what’s right for you.
Neogen Plasma requires multiple treatments to achieve the best results, and it also requires approximately ten days of downtime after each, including significant peeling for several days. Another downside of the treatment is that it best suits those with fair to medium skin tones.
How does it compare to other non-surgical skin tightening treatments?
Profound RF (RF Microneedling)
The Profound is a powerful way to lift and tighten the skin because it is unique in being able to monitor and control the temperatures reached deep inside the skin: We get it to 67 degrees C (significantly higher than other machines, which stay below 45 degrees C for collagen remodelling), which is where collagen is properly damaged, allowing for the most effective healing response and the most dramatic results. It means only one treatment, which will last you up to 18 months, is needed.
Sofwave (Ultrasound)
Sofwave is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency, low-divergence ultrasound and heat to boost collagen production and soften fine lines and wrinkles. Whereas other ultrasound technologies on the market work by concentrating the energy to create a focal hotspot between 1.5mm and 4.5mm below the surface of the skin, Sofwave works within the skin itself to create – with each ‘shot’ of energy – seven cylinders which go straight down, parallel to the surface of the skin, and which link up 1.5mm beneath the skin, to create a line of collagen-remodelling heat. This means that each shot treats an area of tissue far greater in size, and the energy delivered is up to around six times higher than with other ultrasound devices. The result is a much more effective skin-tightening result.
Sofwave can be used to effectively tighten the skin, lift jowls, improve skin quality, lift the brow and tighten the skin around the eyes after just one treatment, and with absolutely no downtime.
