Profile balancing with dermal fillers, West Malling, Kent
Many feel self-conscious about their side profile due to a prominent nose or receding chin/jawline. There are a lot of different features that we perceive to be beautiful, but the secret lies in the balance of the face, and the chin, lips and nose, in particular, help to provide this facial balance. So, if you’re considering dermal fillers to help you achieve a perfectly balanced facial profile, read on for everything you need to know and the results you can expect.
What is profile balancing?
Profile balancing uses dermal fillers to balance the features of your front and side profile which, in turn, creates facial harmony by achieving a “connection” between the main features of the profile. Profile balancing is achieved by harmonising the forehead, nose, lips and chin collectively, as the ratios between these features greatly impact the side profile and overall structure of the face.
Commonly, patients seeking rhinoplasty, or a lip augmentation may not be aware that they have a small chin on side profile, so treating the chin may help to balance what someone may think is a large nose. Similarly, lip fillers can emphasise a smaller chin and throw out the balance of the lower face.
Can profile balancing make my nose look smaller?
The improved light reflection from correcting any bumps and curves, together with any filler treatments given in the chin, lips or forehead, will mean your facial ratios will be better balanced, reducing their prominence. This can give the illusion of a smaller nose.
How much filler will you need?
In terms of the amount of filler used, it depends on your facial volume loss and the level of symmetry required. Typically, we will administer between 5-10 ml across multiple treatment sessions, depending on your expectations and treatment goals.
Is it right for you?
Both men and women can benefit from this approach. It’s ideal for those with a weak mandibular angle, sub-mental fat or jowls. Chin augmentations tend to complement jawline fillers perfectly, and lip fillers are ideal for those who feel that their lips don’t project f enough – or for those with an obvious over or underbite.
Other treatments to consider…
In some cases, these treatments may work well instead of or alongside dermal fillers.
Fat freezing (CoolSculpting)
If a double chin is affecting the appearance of your side profile, then you could consider fat freezing or dissolving to destroy the cells permanently. Fat freezing options include the popular CoolSculpting, which usually takes just one treatment to achieve around a 25 per cent permanent fat reduction in the area in two-to-three months. Another effective treatment for blitzing fat in the submental area is Belkyra, which uses a solution based on deoxycholic acid and is administered via injections into the area of concern.
Dental work
The position of your teeth can significantly affect your side profile, so, in some cases, you may also be referred to a dentist or orthodontist to correct any underlying misalignment alongside injectables to shape the jaw area and overall side profile.
