The aesthetics landscape is never short of weird and wonderful treatments that promise to rejuvenate and refresh a tired or ageing complexion. Profhilo established itself with such speed as a unique injectable hyaluronic acid for treating laxity and crepiness that it’s hard to believe it was launched as recently as 2015. Yet, despite its swift rise in popularity, there is still much confusion about the procedure – is it a type of dermal filler? Is it safe? What happens if something goes wrong? What are the side effects?
If you’re yet to try the unique formulation and you’re looking for a ‘refresh from within’, Profhilo could be the treatment for you. This is everything you need to know.
What is Profhilo, and what makes it so unique?
Profhilo is an injectable moisturiser with skin remodelling benefits, reversing signs of ageing like skin laxity and loss of elasticity. The hydration benefits far outweigh other skinboosters as the concentration of hyaluronic acid in Profhilo is much higher, allowing it to strengthen the scaffold of the skin and build elastin and collagen. This gives Profhilo a subtle lifting and tightening effect and boosts radiance from within.
What makes Profhilo so unique is its unique NAHYCO technology. This is a process in which the hyaluronic acid molecules can form hybrid co-operative complexes of different molecular weights, which are stabilised. This leads to slowly released hydration and the formation of collagen and elastin to improve skin quality and provide longer-lasting results.
As we age, both collagen and elastin fibres in our skin deplete. This causes signs of ageing such as thinner skin, fine lines and wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and crepiness. The skin also becomes more lax, and the skin’s surface becomes more irregular due to the loss of collagen and elasticity. To address these signs of ageing in the skin, both collagen and elastin fibres should be replenished and, by treating the skin with an injectable like Profhilo, we can do this very effectively.
What happens during treatment, and when will you see results?
Profhilo is injected at 5 points on each side of the face (or in the area to be treated) and spreads evenly throughout the skin, drawing water along the way and blending smoothly into the deep layers of the skin. After two sessions a month apart, you should expect to see a real difference in your skin’s tone, texture, and laxity, which will seem ‘firmer’. The quality of the skin tissues can be significantly improved. Profhilo is not a quick fix in the same way dermal fillers are, but it’s excellent to have in the lead up to an event or special occasion or for general skin maintenance.
Is it safe?
Profhilo is completely safe. It is formulated with 100% hyaluronic acid and no added chemicals. Plus, it’s biocompatible, so it will not cause any harm to your facial tissue. The absence of additives significantly minimises the risks of complications and side effects. You can have the added confidence in Profhilo, knowing it is FDA approved too.
Are there any side effects to be aware of?
There are no known risks associated with Profhilo. The 10-point bio aesthetic point technique is away from the major vessels, and the injection plane of the deep dermis is also away from the vessels. Minor skin blebs commonly appear immediately following treatment, but they will usually disappear within a day.
