Fat Freezing: How Much Fat Can You Expect to Lose?
Freezing away unwanted fat may sound appealing to those who’ve struggled to shift stubborn fat pockets in areas such as the stomach, hips, and chin despite maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regime. But with so many fat reduction treatments out there, how do you decide what’s right for you and what will help you achieve the best result?
CoolSculpting uses precisely controlled cooling, known as cryolipolysis, to target fat cells in specific zones, and it’s the world number one body-contouring treatment. So, how much fat can you expect to lose, and how does CoolSculpting compare to other fat freezing devices?
CoolSculpting vs other fat-freezing devices
CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive fat freezing body contouring procedure, and it has performed more than eight million procedures since it was first introduced over ten years ago. It’s the most proven technology on the market, with over 60 medical papers and twenty years of research and development. Its patented safety mechanisms help deliver optimal, consistent treatment. For example, CoolSculpting devices are the only controlled cooling devices with built-in safety measures, causing the treatment to terminate when it detects any safety breach or abnormal skin conditions.
How does it work for fat loss?
CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis, a cooling technology, to take advantage of fat cells’ natural vulnerability to the cold by freezing them until they die and are naturally eliminated by the body. The cooling applicators target fat cells in specific areas, ensuring other cells in that area aren’t harmed. The treatment is customised to each patient and removes fat cells in stubborn areas such as thighs, stomach, flanks, upper arms, under the chin, and back. By targeting and destroying the fat cells, CoolSculpting provides a treatment option for body contouring to help you reach your personalised goals.
Is it right for me?
The ideal candidate is someone who is already leading an active lifestyle but has resistant, pinchable areas of fat that refuse to shift, even with healthy diet and exercise. It’s a great alternative to liposuction for many people. They will have noticeable but modestly sized bulges in certain areas of the body that they’re struggling to get rid of through diet and exercise alone.
If you have a BMI of 34 or more, we advise that you begin a weight loss routine before considering fat freezing as a treatment option. However, that’s not to say that this treatment can’t help with your journey in the future. The closer you are to a healthy BMI, the more impressive the CoolSculpting results will be, and the fewer treatments will be required.
For those who are within 10 or 20 lbs of their ideal weight, a determining factor is the tightness of the fat. If you can pinch and pull the fat away from your body, this means you are likely a good candidate for the procedure.
How much fat can I expect to lose?
Following treatment, the body processes and flushes out the destroyed fat cells gradually and naturally. Patients can usually look forward to seeing their results over a period of up to 12 weeks, however, some start to see reductions in as little as six weeks.
CoolSculpting has the power to permanently break down and destroy subcutaneous fat tissues in the treated area(s). In less than an hour, the treatment will freeze fat with its cooling technology, eliminating up to 27 per cent of the fat cells in the treated area.
It’s worth noting that multiple cycles (applicator heads) may be required during one treatment depending on the size of the area. Although you will see a result after one treatment, multiple treatments may be required depending on your goals and the amount of fat to be treated.
