Your initial thoughts may be that there’s not much that can be done to change the nose’s appearance without turning to surgery – but a quick trawl through the websites of aesthetic clinics will quickly change your mind. Using the strategic placement of dermal fillers, aesthetic practitioners can make hooked or bumpy noses appear straight and adjust the appearance of noses that tip down at the end, all in a matter of minutes.
If there’s something about your nose that you don’t like, but you don’t want to go as far as surgery, this procedure is well-worth considering. Hooked nose? A bump in the middle? A droopy tip? A nose that looks too big and is out of proportion to the rest of your facial features? All these things can be adjusted with injectable fillers.
What is a non-surgical nose job?
A non-surgical nose job involves injecting small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler at strategic points on the nose to make minor adjustments to its shape and contour. It’s performed whilst you’re awake and involves local rather than a general anaesthetic. It can be used to camouflage dorsal humps, raise the nasal tip, make it look more defined, and improve specific contours.
How does it work?
The nose is a 3D complex structure composed of skin, soft tissue, cartilage, and bone. Much of what you see is to do with the shadows and how the light falls onto your nose at certain angles. Although we’re technically adding volume with filler, the end result is a nose that appears smaller and more defined — essentially, it is more balanced, and the light and shadows will soften the nose due to its straighter appearance.
Would it work for me?
Most people would benefit from a slight tweak to the nose. It depends on what your nose looks like initially, but an excellent place to start is by looking at before and after photos on clinic websites and social media profiles to better understand what can be achieved. Bumps can be smoothed away, droopy tips lifted, and proportions subtly altered.
Occasionally, chin filler may be more suitable as addressing a small or disproportionate chin can bring the nose into balance and make it appear smaller.
Is it safe?
As with all aesthetic procedures, they are extremely safe when delivered by a trained medical practitioner. The nose is an area that you should be particularly cautious about due to the number of facial arteries in this area. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is not a treatment to be taken lightly – in the wrong hands, potential slip-ups could lead to skin death and blindness. If you’re considering treatment, do your research, read reviews, and ask your practitioner about their qualifications and experience.
It’s also advisable to enquire about the product being used. These days, most dermal fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase injections if a complication occurs, but this is only possible if the dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid-based product.
How long does it last?
Results can last between 9 months and two years depending on the anatomy of the nose, the issue being addressed, the patient’s own metabolism, and the type of filler used.
