Can Hair Loss Be Reversed?
Most people, at some point in their lives, will experience some degree of hair loss, and it can be a huge stress for many. Thinning hair is usually associated with men, but millions of women around the world are also dealing with this issue.
In fact, it affects approximately 50 per cent of men and 75 per cent of women in their lives. So, what exactly causes hair loss and what can you do to stop the problem in its tracks?
What causes hair loss?
There are many potential causes of hair loss which is why it’s so essential to seek medical guidance in the first instance, to rule out any underlying medical conditions. Hormonal imbalance, genetics, stress, iron deficiency, thyroid issues, vitamin B12 deficiency, and traction alopecia are all possible triggers, and each should be investigated as a possible cause.
If your hair loss is genetic, you may see a progressive gradual reduction in hair volume. In these cases, certain hair follicles are sensitive to male hormones – and this sensitivity causes follicles to gradually shrink and produce slightly finer and shorter hair with each passing hair growth cycle.
A hormonal imbalance can lead to a multitude of frustrating health issues, from acne and weight gain to fatigue and, of course, hair loss. If your hormones are out of whack, it’s likely you’ll experience other symptoms alongside hair loss as it will radiate throughout the whole body.
Can it be reversed?
Whether your hair loss is caused by hormones, stress, or an autoimmune disorder, regrowing your hair by using medications, clinical treatments or modifying your lifestyle is possible if you start treatment relatively early.
Many people assume that a hair transplant is the only real option but, in many cases, especially in female-pattern baldness, patients aren’t suitable for surgery as the hair is thinning all over the scalp, leaving little or no area suitable as a donor site.
Fortunately, there are several effective treatment options to consider when treating hair loss in both men and women, without turning to surgery.
The treatment options to consider
Topical medication
Using the Trichotest, an advanced DNA test that provides a full explanation of your genetic characteristics and how they relate to your hair loss, we can gain a deeper understanding of the causes behind your hair loss, therefore, enabling us to provide a fully personalised treatment plan.
Usually, this is in the form of a bespoke topical formulation that delivers key ingredients such as Finasteride and Minoxidil to the follicles to stimulate hair growth.
The beauty of the Trichotest is that it takes the trial and error out of hair restoration treatments. You can start with the most appropriate treatment approaches and ultimately, see the best results possible.
Calecim
Calecim Professional is a cruelty-free formula that provides deeply effective results to our hair restoration patients. By sourcing the stem cells from the cord lining, Calecim Professional serum offers the highest concentration of stem cells that can be extracted safely and without harming any animals.
These cells contain a potent mixture of proteins, cytokines, and growth factors, to improve skin and scalp health, promote skin and hair rejuvenation and give life-changing results.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP has more to offer than its collagen boosting and skin tightening benefits for the face. It also works to stimulate the production of new hair cells. During treatment, your practitioner will take a vial of your blood, usually no more than the average blood test would require, and they’ll spin it in a centrifuge to create plasma rich in platelets. This is then infused or injected into your scalp where the platelets will release growth factors and encourage hair growth.
HydraFacial Keravive
Poor scalp health is a significant contributor to damaged and thinning hair. The Keravive by HydraFacial uses patented vortex technology to unclog hair follicles, boost circulation and remove dead skin and congestion while nourishing and hydrating the scalp.
The treatment infuses a proprietary blend of skin proteins and growth factors to encourage the growth of thicker, healthier and stronger looking hair. It works well as an individual treatment but can also be combined with other hair restoration treatments such as PRP to enhance results.
Supplementation
At Illuminate, we use Viviscal Professional – a supplement that promotes hair health and growth every single day. Using a unique active ingredient, AminoMar CTM, Viviscal provides amazing results in a drug and hormone-free formula, which for a long time was the only option for effective hair supplements, and often came with a variety of side effects.
Viviscal is a nutritional supplement that uses a rich protein complex to promote hair growth, health, density and strength. It also contains biotin to promote smooth, healthy hair and apple extract to give a soft, healthy-looking finish.
