Thread vein treatment, Maidstone, Kent

Thread veins, or spider veins as they are commonly known, are tiny red or blue veins that appear on the legs and other parts of the body for several reasons. These include genetics, ageing, standing for long periods of time, during and post-pregnancy, and even a bump on the leg can make a cluster of these veins appear. Many of us find these thread veins unsightly and seek an effective, non-surgical approach to eradicating them.

One of the treatments that Dr Shotter now provides to her patients is Microsclerotherapy, the treatment of thread and spider veins on the legs. This involves injecting a sclerosant into the veins using a tiny, thin needle, causing irritation to the wall of the vessel and stopping the blood from flowing through it. This in turn, causes the thread vein to disappear.

The treatment is very straightforward and takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of veins to be treated. It does not hurt, as the needles used to inject the sclerosant are very tiny. However you can take some Paracetamol beforehand if you are concerned. Following the treatment, you will be able to resume your every day activities. Most patients are advised to expect 3 treatments, although every case is different. You will be asked to attend a review at around 4-6 weeks following treatment and should expect to have a second treatment if required.

Microsclerotherapy is for the treatment of thread veins on locations of the body below the heart, and must not be used on the face. This is a very dangerous procedure and we use Thermavein treatment for facial thread veins with excellent results.
