CoolSculpting technology (or Cryolipolysis) uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate, targeted and unwanted fat cells without invasive surgery or downtime and can treat areas of stubborn fat on the tummy, inner and outer thighs, flanks, buttocks, chest (men only) arms and even the chin. Candidates for the treatment are both men and women that have areas that they can “pinch” and that already lead a fairly healthy lifestyle. Those that are considered clinically obese may not benefit from this treatment as the area to be treated will need to be able to be sucked in to the Coolsculpting device head. This works best on those that are within 30 lbs of their ideal weight and that understand that Coolsculpting will work alongside a healthy diet and exercise plan.
CoolSculpting is a straightforward procedure and throughout the treatment you will be fully awake. You can read, have a cup of tea, check e mails and even take a nap. The treatment is not painful, however, you may be slightly tender for up to a week following the treatment. After-care protocol will be discussed with Dr Sophie prior to treatment. There is no downtime following the CoolSculpting treatment and you can return to your daily activities straightaway.
The treatment takes around an hour per area, with early results visible from 3 weeks onwards. For many patients, a second treatment in the same area may be beneficial since CoolSculpting removes about 30% of the fat cells per treatment. The fat cells that are damaged by the treatment are frozen and later absorbed by the body’s own metabolic process and are gone permanently. Typical results take about 3-4 months to be fully realized, and therefore many patients schedule second treatments at that time. Results may vary from patient to patient but overall, our patients have been very happy with their results.
