A young face has well rounded contours, high cheekbones and a well defined jawline. There are smooth curves from the cheeks to the edge of the nose without any hollows.
As we begin to grow older, we start to lose hyaluronic acid in our skin. This is a substance which creates a matrix for hydrated skin tissue and as this is lost, our skin becomes dry and facial volume decreases. The skin then reacts to gravity and is “pulled” down and this results in unsightly folds and sagging. There is a common saying that as we get older, we make a choice between the body and the face, as weight loss, though in most cases is a good thing, can exacerbate the look of hollow cheeks and sagging skin as well as the natural ageing process. The effects of long term illness, smoking and sun-damage can also contribute to the skin ageing process.
At the Illuminate Skin Clinics, near Maidstone, Kent, we aim to give to our patients, those rounded and volumised facial contours we associate so much with a youthful appearance. This can be achieved with specialised facial filler injectable treatments to the cheek area. Conveniently located in Kings Hill, 5 minutes from West Malling and 20 minutes by car from Maidstone, Illuminate Skin Clinics brings the expertise and professionalism that would usually be seen in a top London clinic to a convenient location.
Dr Sophie Shotter uses specifically developed hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers to produce the effects of lifting and contouring as plumping and hydrating the skin in the mid-face area. Following an in-depth consultation with the doctor and a thorough discussion about treatment, the filler gel is injected under the skin in several locations around the cheek area. These fillers usually contain Lidocaine, an injectable anesthetic so there is no need for topical or separate injectable anesthesia in most cases. The filler replenishes lost skin volume to the cheeks and this can improve the overall shape of your face.
Shortly after treatment you should notice that your facial contours appear fuller and rounder, giving your face a softer appearance. You should see the full effects of the treatment 2 to 4 weeks post procedure. If you feel you need some extra product this is possible and you can return to Dr Sophie to discuss a top up treatment if required.
