One of the things that many of us notice when the face begins to age is the appearance of lines, wrinkles and thinning around the lips.
Youthful lips contain building block substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid to give them that plump, full and hydrated look. We start to lose hyaluronic acid as we age, and the loss of this substance means we lose the volume and hydration needed in order to keep us looking youthful. Smoking, sun-damage and rapid weight loss can also contribute to thinning of the lips and the appearance of lines and wrinkles in this area.
The use of hyaluronic acid is now frequently practiced to combat the appearance of thinning lips and fine lines and wrinkles, and Dr Sophie Shotter at Illuminate Skin Clinic in Kent offers lip filler treatment with extremely successful results.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) lip fillers augment the skin tissue and as HA can absorb many times it’s own weight in water, this makes the lip area fuller and appear more moisturised as a result. There are several brands of HA filler. However Dr Sophie will only use specific, tested and approved HA fillers such as Juvederm. Wherever possible, Dr Shotter will use an HA filler that contains a local anaesthetic, especially when treating the delicate lip area.
Lip Filler treatment in Kent with Dr Sophie Shotter
Prior to any lip filler treatment Dr Sophie will consult with you to discuss your needs and requirements and advise on the procedure, products used and expected results. It is important that you have a full understanding of the treatment, that the doctor is aware of your medical history and that she and you are fully satisfied you would like to proceed. Dr Sophie very much advocates a natural enhancement and will use the existing proportions, measurements and structure of your own face in order to correctly advise and determine how much filler will be used and the areas to be injected, as the treatment will affect the look of your entire face and not just the area that is treated.
Lip filler procedures takes around 10 to 20 minutes and as this is the delicate lip area, you will be advised not to drinks anything too hot following the treatment as the anaesthetic may mean you cannot feel if something is burning you. Heat also encourages bruising and you will want to minimise the risk of this. A cooling ice pack may be used if necessary as well as massaging with arnica gel to ensure a smooth distribution of product. Any bruising can be covered with a light make up around 6 hours after treatment.
Results are seen immediately, however the full effect of lip filler will take around 2 weeks to be seen and should you require any further treatment, you can return to Illuminate Skin Clinic at this time to discuss this with Dr Sophie.
